This" doesnt seem strong enough for Ophelia to actually believe Hamlets love for her.

Hamlet does not think in this manner, which raises the question of whether the love between them is strong enough to have lasted through the chaos and difficulty in Hamlets life. Hamlet accuses his mother for destroying his ability to love, as shown through his bitter treatment of Ophelia. This is important because it shows how much Hamlet really cares about Ophelia, when he doesnt really care about her at all. Polonius tries to control her reputation which only leads him to shutting out Ophelia's emotions.
